What are the activities in Sounds & Spelling Success
Stage 2
Engaging in school-type activities, at home, is crucial for helping children develop essential skills, consolidate knowledge and routines that set them up for success. These early experiences not only build confidence and familiarity with academic concepts but also foster a love for learning, through confidence, ensuring a smoother transition between year levels.
Spelling
By hearing the sounds, circling the individual sounds, children gain a deeper understanding of phonics and phonemic awareness.
Reading & comprehsion
Identifying key ideas, creating pictures in our head as we read to develop understanding.
Re-tell
Using identified key ideas, children re-tell the story they have read through writing and illustrations.
Grammar & punctuation
Through editing work, children begin to understand how important grammar and punctuation is to their writing.
Word bank
Putting their words into sentences helps children to contextualise words and builds their word bank, for more engaging writing.
Reflection
Self reflection helps children take ownerships of their work, refining and creating more mature texts.

This is a simple guide with activities that can be downloaded as many times as you wish. We reccomend a minimum of 10 minutes a day and gradually build on your child’s knowledge. Repeat activities you feel need more support.
You know your child best. It will depend on where they are currently in their learning journey. If your child can read 3 letter words and many high frequency words, can write these words and basic sentences, then The Sounds and Spelling Success - stage 2 is for you!
